Acoustic Guitar Scales

Scale practice will help to concentrate your musical ear, develop your knowledge of music theory and exercise your finger muscles. Most guitar scales are based around a series of seven notes known as the diatonic scale. Within the confines of diatonic harmony there are seven different musical modes; each one has different musical characteristics, each one triggers different emotional responses from the listener. Because of the practicalities of acoustic guitars, players of the instrument usually learn open position scales first.
