Warm Ups

If guitar players are athletes who train their fingers to do super-human things than guitar players must warm up before practice.  The importance of developing good warm up exercises before playing guitar should not be underestimated and could in the long term save a guitar player of any level from causing an injury to a finger. The following exercises are technical exercise inspired by Dream Theatre guitarist John Petrucci and are useful routines to warm up your picking-hand before attempting to play technical heavy metal. Because the fretting-hand pretty much remains the same in these exercises; it designed to improve your picking-hand. As usual start off slow and work your way up to speed. The following two exercises are designed for advanced electric guitar players and are technically challenging.

Warm Ups – Crotchet, Quavers, Triplets, Semi-Quavers

Warm Ups – Semi-Quaver-Triplets, Semi-Demi-Quavers
